Through The Gates is an original musical being written by writer Daniel Cummings and composer Scott Christian. They met as members of the Theatre 20 Composium group and the partnership has yielded some great work so far. The project has so far received a private reading of the first act. The completion of the entire first draft is planned for Spring 2012.
“The story is an adaptation of the events known as ‘The Great Departure’ in Buddhist scriptures. Heartbroken after the death of his queen, the king dedicates his life and rule to the creation of a place without sickness, death or and form of suffering in which to raise his son, the prince Siddhartha. Each time a friend or servant is sent away, the prince is told stories of journeys to faraway lands, like the Realm of Queens where his mother rules. The prince grows up dreaming of made-up places, but he is forbidden from leaving the gates of his palace.”
